Meier paradox

(mysterious decline in number of radio galaxy jets)

The name Meier paradox has been given to the unexplained low count of radio galaxy jets in the local region of space (thus of recent time), given theory as to how galaxy jets are triggered and powered. If a supermassive black hole (SMBH)'s high rotation rate powers the jets, it would seem that the same would be true in the present as in the past. The paradox has been a prod to the further development of the theory of radio-loud active galactic nuclei (AGNs).
