lenticular galaxy

(disk galaxy that has no spirals)

A lenticular galaxy is a disk galaxy (shaped like a disk) that has no spiral arms, i.e., that is not a spiral galaxy. Their Hubble galaxy classification is "S0". They often have a substantial central bulge. Their typical properties are much like elliptical galaxies: substantial cosmic dust, limited star formation, and aging stars.
