The International Ultraviolet Explorer (IUE) was a 45-cm space-based ultraviolet telescope launched in 1978 into Earth orbit and operated until 1996. Among the organizations collaborating were NASA and the European Space Agency (ESA). Instruments:

Among its activities were follow-up UV studies of SN 1987A. IUEDAC (for IUE Data Analysis Center) was a clearing house for IUE data, a function which has been subsumed by MAST.
