An isophote on a diagram or map is a line indicating a level of brightness, in the manner that a contour line on a topological map indicates an altitude. A diagram of a planet (e.g., at a certain point in time) might be given isophotes indicating the levels of brightness, i.e., from the combination of the planet's emission and its reflection of the host star's electromagnetic radiation.
