Infrared Space Observatory
(ISO)
(1990s 60-cm infrared space telescope)
The Infrared Space Observatory (ISO)
was an European Space Agency (ESA) infrared space telescope,
in operation from 1995 to 1998.
Instruments:
- ISOCAM - infrared camera.
- ISOPHOT - photo-polarimeter.
- SWS - short wave spectrometer (2.4-45 micrometer).
- LWS - long wave Spectrometer (45-196.8 micrometer).
Targets included star-forming regions, protoplanetary disks, and
solar system objects.
Among the surveys carried out is ELAIS,
the European Large Area ISO Survey, covering at least five
survey fields labeled N1, N2, N3 (north), S1, and S2 (south).
