INTEGRAL
(International Gamma-ray Astrophysics Laboratory)
(European gamma ray observatory-satellite)
INTEGRAL (for International Gamma-ray Astrophysics Laboratory)
is a European Space Agency (ESA) gamma-ray telescope in space,
launched in 2002 and still in operation in 2023.
Instruments included:
- IBIS ("Imager on board INTEGRAL Satellite").
- SPI ("Spectrometer on INTEGRAL").
- ACS ("AntiCoincidence Shield").
- JEM-X ("Joint European X-ray Monitor").
- OMC ("Optical Monitoring Camera").
- IREM ("INTEGRAL Radiation Environment Monitor").
The IBAS (INTEGRAL Burst Alert System) is a system for
prompt alerting of potential observers of gamma-ray bursts.
IBIS has two sets of detectors,
ISGRI ("INTEGRAL soft gamma-ray imager")
and PICsIT ("pixellated imaging CsI telescope",
CsI for thallium-activated cesium-iodide scintillator).
