An inertial wave is a type of wave that can occur in a rotating
fluid, in which the restoring force is the Coriolis force.
Due to the Earth's rotation, they are present
in the Earth's atmosphere, oceans, and may
well occur in the Earth's core. They are relevant to disks
(e.g., protoplanetary disks) and to the interior of gas planets.
Rossby waves are an example of inertial waves.
