HI gas mass

(mass of an object's atomic hydrogen)

The quantity, HI gas mass (the mass of some atomic hydrogen), is often used for galaxies in studies of their star formation and is likely also used for various types of star-forming regions. The quantity HI gas fraction (or HI gas mass ratio) is also used, often comparing a galaxy's HI gas mass to its stellar mass, or to the mass of a galaxy's dark matter halo, or to all the mass associated with the galaxy.
