The High Energy Astronomy Observatory 1 (HEAO-1) was a NASA spacecraft observing X-rays. It was launched in 1977 and functioned until 1979. Among its accomplishments were X-ray sky surveys, such as the HEAO A-1 X-ray Source Catalog. Instruments included:

HEAO-2 and HEAO-3 were follow-on missions.
