Hydrogen Accretion in Local Galaxies Survey

(HALOGAS, Westerbork Hydrogen Accretion in Local Galaxies Survey)
(radio survey looking for HI in galaxy halos)

HALOGAS (the Westerbork Hydrogen Accretion in Local Galaxies Survey) is a Westerbork Synthesis Radio Telescope radio survey of neutral atomic hydrogen spectral lines around nearby spiral galaxies aiming to observe the gas clouds and gas-rich satellite galaxies in the galactic halos. Face-on galaxies are avoided to allow some view of the halo. This data is useful regarding theories of star formation and galaxy formation.
