pea galaxy
(GP, green pea galaxy, pea, green pea)
(small greenish galaxy)
A pea galaxy (or green pea galaxy or GP) is a small galaxy that
looks greenish in SDSS data. They were first identified in 2007
by Galaxy Zoo participants. They show extreme star formation
and are presumed to be a type of blue compact galaxy.
Their redshifts have been less than 1, but theories have
been proposed that they could be similar to first galaxies.
