GMOS
(Gemini Multi-Object Spectrograph)
(multiple-mode spectrograph on each of the Gemini telescopes)
GMOS (for Gemini Multi-Object Spectrograph) is the name of
each of two instruments on the two Gemini Observatory
telescopes, more specifically called
GMOS-N (operational on Gemini North beginning in 2002)
and GMOS-S (on Gemini South beginning in 2003).
Each has an integral field unit (IFU) covering 5.5 × 5.5 arcminute field of view.
They offer spectral resolutions up to R = 10,0000.
They offer the following modes of operation:
(spectrograph,instrument)
