(infrared observatory-plane in the early 1970s)
The Galileo Observatory was an aircraft-mounted
telescope in operation in the late 1960s and early 1970s.
The aircraft was a Convair 990.
It was destroyed in a mid-air collision in 1973 and
was replaced by the Kuiper Airborne Observatory (KAO).
