galaxy environment
(density and character of galaxies surroundings)
The general term galaxy environment often refers to the density
of its surroundings of other galaxies (e.g., within a
galaxy group or galaxy cluster), clouds, and the
surrounding mass in general, including dark matter.
There are some general differences between group environments
(such as within the Local Group) and cluster environments,
the latter of which, for example, generally includes one or more
elliptical galaxies.
