Gal

(gal, Galileo)
(gravimetry unit of the effect of a planet's gravity)

The Gal (for Galileo; note that Gal capitalization varies, probably by writer, but typical are mGal, μGal, milligal, and microgal) is a unit of acceleration commonly used as a measure of the effect of a planet's surface gravity within the science of gravimetry. It is not a part of SI or CGS, but is derived from SI standard units, defined as 1 cm/s².
