facula

(bright spot on a planet or the Sun)

Facula (plural faculae) is a general term for a bright spot, used for a common specific type of feature on the Sun, and used more generally in descriptions of planets and moons. A solar facula is a bright spot in the region between granules. The dwarf planet, Ceres has pronounced bright spots for which the term facula has been used, and which are of interest.
