collisional erosion

(removing a body's substance through impacts)

The term collisional erosion, i.e., erosion due to collisions (impacts) is used in a number of contexts, e.g., for planetoids, such as during phases of planet formation when impacts are frequent. The process is considered regarding the formation of all the bodies of the solar system. Asteroids may retain signs of it, making them useful for analysis of the solar system's history.
