Chern-Simons gravity
(Chern-Simons general relativity, Chern-Simons modified general relativity)
(one type of modified general relativity)
Chern-Simons gravity (Chern-Simons general relativity or
Chern-Simons modified general relativity)
is a theory of gravity based upon general relativity (GR) and
Chern-Simons theory, the latter which is a particular quantum field theory.
It is one of many theoretical explorations of modifications and
adjustments to GR, some of which can be tested,
e.g., in observation of the effects of strong-field gravity.
The metric upon which it is based is called the Chern-Simons metric.
The theory was developed out of mathematics introduced by Shiing-Shen
Chern and James Harris Simons in 1984.
