Bautz-Morgan classification
(morphology classification of galaxy clusters)
The Bautz-Morgan classification of
galaxy clusters, devised in 1970, reflects their morphology
(shape or form).
- Type I - dominated by cD galaxy.
- Type II - intermediate between Type I and Type III.
- Type III - no dominant member.
- Type IIIS - Type III with many giant spiral galaxies.
- Type IIIE - Type III but not Type IIIS.
Type I-II and Type II-III are also used as two more steps between
I and III.
